American LEGION
Post 121 -Eugene Early          WATERTOWN, MN

Welcome to our new website.

This is the maiden launch of our new website and as you can see, I have a long way to go.... any experts out there please reach out and we can discuss a fee for the help with this site.

Call Howard Gilles at 952-452-4674.

Wanted to make sure everyone hears from the official website of the Watertown American Legion.

The baseball team has been governed by the members through their chosen committee members. Issues of funding or of substance are presented in a monthly public meeting of only Legion members. After any discussion, the members vote.

The Legion voted to hire a new Head Coach to take over the summer youth baseball teams and appoint a Legion Member to act as the coordinator between the team, coaches, and the Legion.

The Legion interviewed the applicants and voted to hire Ben Smith as our new Head Coach. Ben is modest but, he is a player and student of the game. He is married and has a child. His love of the game was evident, and he played and coached at the college level to include Mankato State. He plays for the Home Team - Red Devils. Go Devils!

As the new baseball coordinator for the Legion, I am excited to see where Ben takes our players this season. Good luck Ben we are in your corner and believe you will do great!

Ben wanted to hire Dave Wasser as his Assistant Head Coach. Dave applied and the baseball committee interviewed him and voted to approve. Dave is a student of the game, and his coaching ranges all ages. Personally, he was and is instrumental in my own son's baseball journey. I can attest that Dave gets the best out of his players.

Both men have completed all background checks and as expected there were no issues. We know these coaches and believe them to be of high moral character and trust them to be good role models for our sons. Yes, my son is on the team too. I trust Ben and Dave to manage all team communication and all aspects of the teams from the parent and player meetings to the last out of the last game. Please reach out to them and help me welcome them into their new positions.

We hope the boys have a wonderful school ball season. The Watertown Legion is a big supporter of all school activities and has donated to several worthwhile causes over the years.

In 2025 American Legion charitable giving to the schools in Watertown and Mayer, totaled over $17,000. The giving included all sorts of student enrichment experiences such as trips to compete in major competitions to new facilities within the physical spaces in the WT schools. Post 121 here in Watertown is family and we do what we can to help each generation as they learn and grow in our wonderful Watertown-Mayer schools. Investing in our community is a core value of the Legion.

The baseball program has been a long-standing and fun experience that allows the Legion to give back to the community in a fun and community building way. By giving youth healthy outlets to expend their energy, along the way we can help instill values that we believe make a Great American.

Baseball will be fun, but nothing says we cannot infuse words like honesty, integrity, and honor into the lessons we all will surely learn over the coming seasons. The Legion baseball experience is like extended family, and we take great pride in the trust you put in us to help you give your sons the opportunity to build memories and relationships they will cherish forever.

A LEGACY OF PRIDE

Rooted in the heart of Watertown, the American Legion baseball program stands as a beacon of sportsmanship and excellence. Since our founding, we have been dedicated to fostering the growth of young athletes, teaching the values of teamwork, discipline, and community leadership on and off the diamond.
